"Unputdownable"
Writers Digest National Judge Review

"Compelling, heart-rending, unputdownable all describe Eric C. Arauz's intensely personal battle with brutal child abuse, drug addiction, mental illness and post-traumatic stress syndrome. From the opening paragraphs, which immediately and evocatively thrust the reader into the author's kaleidoscopic perspective while under restraint in a mental hospital to the rollicking end which depicts an almost unthinkable comeback of the author's college football team which he equates to his own life circumstances, every page of this book is laced with love, terror and determination."

Review
"No other book I have read about mental illness captures the intensity and at times insanity of thoughts and feelings likeAn American's Resurrection. When Eric describes his first episode of illness as "pulling the pin on his mental grenade" you brace yourself and get ready for the explosion...Should be required reading for staff inevery psychiatric hospital."
Jill Williams, MD;Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry;UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

"Eric Arauz is an American original. He is also a remarkable human being. In thirty years of teaching I have never seen a student take
literature more seriously, or bring its insights more fruitfully to bear on his own life. Read this compelling book for inspiration and illumination.
You won't be disappointed!"
Jackson Lears;Editor-in-chief Raritan: A Quarterly Review;Elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences; Contributor to the New York Times Book Review, London Review of Books and the Paris Review

"To understand recovery you need to listen to people in all of their journey--- the good and the bad.
Eric'sexperience is powerful, honest and covers all aspects of struggling with and mastering a dual diagnosis of substance addiction and bipolar disorder."
Ken Duckworth MD;National Medical Director-National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

"This book brings a new perspective and viewpoint to the discussion and treatment of patients with Co-occurring disorders. It highlights and underscores the necessity to accurately diagnose and treat patients, in order to obtain the best possible treatment outcomes that will not only be cost effective, but provide the efficacy of treatment that the patients, so afflicted, require and deserve."
Louis E. Baxter,Sr., M.D., FASAM;Immediate Past President-American Society of Addiction Medicine;Executive Medical DirectorProfessional Assistance Program NJ, Inc.

"As the treatment of Trauma has lost its way over the past thirty years, I would strongly recommend An American's Resurrection be compulsory reading for anyone wishing to work in the mental health field."
Anthony CStratford;Senior Business Manager, Mind Australia;Visiting Scholar, Yale University School of Medicine (2012);Honorary Fellow, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the University of Melbourne

Simply Majestic! It changed my life...
By Sharifa H.
Arauz's details of his personal tribulations, in conjunction with education, serves as a platform to encourage Social Workers, family members, and survivors of mental illness to advocate on behalf of this population and commit to providing supports, whether emotional, physical, or mental, despite its challenges. The tone and style of the writing, the author's argument for mental health system modifications and improvements, and the role of the book in the Social Work field and families were all strengths of the book. Overall, the book is an excellent read and reinforced the importance of my role as an active therapeutic support of individuals with persistent mental illness of approximately four years. Arauz teaches his audience not to minimize unconventional forms of communication and utilize critical thinking skills when recognizing crisis and intervening during its occurrence. Buy it!

One of the most inspiring people I have ever met
By Ryan D.
Eric is one of the most interesting and inspiring people I have ever met. His new book tells the amazing story of his life and is guaranteed to entertain, while offering a new perspective from one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented groups in America, the individual suffering from addiction and other mental illnesses.

Riveting! An Absolute MUST Read!
By Shauna Moses
When I met Eric, I was immediately struck by his high energy and contagious passion for life. I knew he had a mental illness, but considering how vibrant he is, I couldn't imagine that he had such a troubled past. It was very difficult to put his book down and I admire him even more not only for the successes he has achieved in recovery from mental illness and as an entrepreneur, educator, advocate and inspirational speaker; but also, and probably even more so, for his strength to make it through the hell he experienced and to move on with his life in a very positive manner. Imagine a man who endured child abuse and other challenges associated with having a dad with a serious, untreated mental illness. Imagine a man experiencing his first symptoms of mental illness after being discharged from the Navy and while facing the painful end of a marriage and loss of a beloved stepdaughter. Imagine a man who became physically weak from spending hours in restraints, is now physically strong and mentally stable, is a fulfilled husband and father, and continues to struggle with the fear of his symptoms being triggered and of his daughter developing the same illness. Better yet, don't imagine it. Don't even try. It will pale in comparison to the compelling book that tells Eric's incredible story. His story is a must read and will inspire anyone, whether or not mental illness or addiction affects a reader's life, and whether or not a reader is or plans to be working in the behavioral healthcare field.
