About the Author

Cindy L. Stanfield earned a B.S. degree and a Ph.D. in physiology at the University of California at Davis. Her exposure to neurophysiology research as an undergraduate sparked her interest in pursuing a Ph.D. As a graduate student, Stanfield studied the role of neuropeptides in pain modulation and taught several physiology laboratory courses, which led to her interest in teaching. She currently teaches human physiology and neuroscience lecture courses and a lecture/discussion course in issues in biomedical sciences at the University of South Alabama. Cindy recently retired her research responsibilities to take on advising prehealth students��

�� She currently serves as the National President of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), the national Prehealth Honor Society. Cindy received the College of Allied Health Professions Excellence in Service Award in 2003, and the University of South Alabama Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award in 2004. She is an active member of several professional organizations including the Society for Neuroscience, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the American Pain Society, and the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions. She lives in Mobile, Alabama, with her husband, Jim, and their many cats and dogs.

Same book, add binder

This is the same as the hardcover book- you just have to add a binder because it's unbound. For the difference in price it is a really good deal and I like that it still came with the disk. So many a la carte books don't so be careful when purchasing if your class requires a disk/online lab.

"This 4th edition of Katzenstein and Askin’s book follows the same chapter layout as the 3rd edition, and although it looks much ‘fatter’, it is only some 30 pages longer. The biggest advance in the current volume is that all the illustrations are now in colour and virtually all are of an extremely high quality with good colour balance. The use of colour has been extended to the headings, sub-headings and tables and this also has the effect of making the text feel less compact and more accessible.

As would be expected from someone with Professor Katzenstein’s experience and publication record, the chapters on the ‘interstitial lung diseases’ are particularly clear and will be helpful to those not encountering such conditions frequently in their practice, as well as the more specialist thoracic pathologist. These chapters will also be of great use to trainees wanting an introduction to what often seems a confusing list of terms and acronyms in the run up to exams or when undertaking an attachment in respiratory pathology.

Although there are larger textbooks of non-neoplastic lung disease available this book continues to provide a highly readable, comprehensive yet concise view of the area and always provides useful guidance with problems cases. The chapters are also very well referenced and provide and quick easy source of further reading if more in depth research is needed for diagnostic problems or for presentation of cases at clinical meetings." AFIP says read this!

I'm currently doing a rotation in pulmonary pathology at the AFIP, and this was highly recommended (one of 2 books mentioned the first day) by the chair of the department... in fact they have 4 copies in various states of repair on the resident's shelf, next to the WHO tumors book, and Rosai. I've found it to be unusually useful with tons of great basic advice about proper diagnostic techniques, and the importance of getting good clinical histories, with radiographic appearances of specific (and nonspecific) entities. Good pictures. Great descriptions. Highly recommended.

Exceptional book!

This book is excellent written, in an easy to read and understand format. It is completely revised and improved from the previous edition. All the pictures are color, a lot of tables and bibliographical information. It is concised and focused. It's a great book for the practicing pathologist.
